CAAB - Competence Assessment Across Borders

The project

One of the main challenges for the European countries today is to enhance economic competitiveness through improvements in human capital. Skills, knowledge and competencies are becoming crucial prerequisites for productivity and competitiveness. That’s why a bigger focus on competence assessment and validation of informal learning is needed. The aim of the project is to develop a competence assessment model in order to identify and assess the vocational and personal competences.

Role model is a competence assessment model developed in the ESF-funded project “From industry to service” in Denmark which is today used in the industry and service sector. In the course of the project this model is transferred to the partner countries, adjusted to their specific needs and implemented. The project shall support the quality and innovation in vocational education and training systems, institutions and practices.

It also aims at increasing the validation of non-formal learning on a local, regional and national level in the participating countries. For more sustainability and recognition in the participating countries a handbook for the future use of the programme and a strategy for implementation are planned to be elaborated.

Possible target groups are teachers from vocational colleges, career advisors from public employment services as well as employees from centres for vocational training. Furthermore institutions and organisations working with guidance of low-skilled people and with adult and vocational training could benefit of this competence assessment model.

The project will be promoted via web site, publication, via network and a direct involvement of relevant institutions and organisations. To introduce the model to the public an international conference in the Kolping Training Centre in Stuttgart will take place in September 2009.
