Prima – Integration of young people into the job market

The project

In many industry and trade worker companies, workers with little or no qualification are trained to accomplish specific tasks. The training they receive imparts no further knowledge company workflows and allows, in spite of their collective experience, for no independent (and for the employee) satisfying and more challenging work experiences.

The project was aimed at these specific employees and offers them tailor-made and individualised qualification training geared at increasing their value to the employer and diminishing their chances of unemployment. The focus was placed on young adults, especially women, female expatriates, female foreigners and the handicapped.

The measure covered the profession-specific qualification of the participant and case management. The profession-specific qualification includes themes particular to the company such as sales, storage and transport, work and instruments for measuring and the maintenance of machines and also practice related classes in the German language which are held routinely. The case management classes had the following goals:

- Furtherance of the individual development of the employee

- Work off personal problems and difficulties

- Solutions for dealing with the disability in the workplace

- Motivation for fundamental change and improvement of the employees attitude

Of importance to the success of the project was combined collaboration of employment and educational institutions in order to provide target groups a possibility of such a qualification in an environment created to suit their needs.

Participants in the project, which was carried out in cooperation with Caritas in Ulm, included 19 female and 47 male employees. Following the project, the participants were escorted to the companies for which they work and received counselling in order to bolster the sustainability of the measure.
